Gara'ad Port: The New Frontier Port of Central Somalia
Overview
The Port of Gara’ad represents one of Somalia’s newest maritime infrastructure developments and an emerging commercial gateway for Central Somalia. Strategically located along the Indian Ocean coastline in the Mudug Region, the port is positioned to serve domestic Somali markets, support regional trade connectivity, and potentially provide maritime access to inland areas of the Horn of Africa.
The port is being developed through a Somali private-sector-led investment model and is intended to stimulate economic growth, logistics services, employment generation, and supply chain connectivity for the central regions of Somalia. Port development activities are focused on phased infrastructure expansion, cargo handling capacity improvement, and transport corridor integration with inland road networks.
